The dates

Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26; Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. The retail event is longer than either day: Amazon’s 2025 Black Friday Week opened on November 20 at 12:01 am PST and ran through Cyber Monday on December 1 — twelve days — and the grill deals the press covered in 2025 were live from at least November 21. Amazon had not announced its 2026 dates when we wrote this; we will add them here when it does.

The practical consequence: if you are waiting for a deal on a specific smoker or thermometer, start watching the live price on this page a week before Thanksgiving, not on the Friday.

What historically goes on sale

We read the 2025 Black Friday coverage from barbecue and general-interest outlets and pulled the pattern out of it. Everything below is what did happen, with the source; none of it is a forecast. Past discounts are not a promise for 2026.

Pellet grills — the clearest record

Bob Vila’s early Black Friday list on November 21, 2025 had three Traeger pellet grills cut against their list prices — the Pro 22 ($449 from $549.95), the Pro 34 ($599 from $729.95) and the Ironwood 885 ($1,099 from $1,399.95) — and Smoked BBQ Source, writing on November 28, named pellet grills first when it said the strongest price drops were on “pellet grills, gas grills, knives, thermometers, pizza ovens, and meat.” If one barbecue category reliably shows up in the holiday lists, it is this one.

Two caveats, both important. First, the models cut were Traeger’s established lines; the Woodridge line, which is our current pellet pick, did not appear in the lists we read, and brand-new models in their first season are the ones least likely to be discounted. Second, the retail-timing sources are blunt that Black Friday is not the cheapest moment for a grill — see the next section.

Thermometers — the most reliable pattern

MEATER discounted the Plus and the Pro by 30% and the SE and the Block by 40% for Cyber Monday 2025. Smoked BBQ Source’s 2025 list had thermometers and probes at 24 to 50% off. And ThermoWorks — whose Thermapen is the instant-read everyone else is measured against — ran a 30% fall warehouse sale on the Thermapen ONE in late September 2025, down to $76 from its usual $109, which tells you the brand’s deepest prices are not confined to November. For a gifter planning to buy a wireless probe, this is the one class where waiting has a documented basis.

Knives

Smoked BBQ Source’s 2025 list showed 20% cuts on premium barbecue knife sets. Our slicing knife pick is the inexpensive Victorinox, which is the value choice at full price; the knives a Black Friday discount meaningfully changes are the premium forged ones bought for looks.

Weber — small cuts, by policy

Weber appeared in the 2025 lists, but only with modest reductions on its smaller kettles — the Jumbo Joe, the Smokey Joe and the Performer. GearWhen’s explanation is that Weber enforces minimum pricing, so “even a great Weber deal is only 10 to 25 percent off.” Consistent with that, our Smokey Mountain pick carries no struck-through list price in today’s feed at all.

What rarely discounts

Weber’s bigger cookers, for the minimum-pricing reason above. Brand-new models. The 2025 Traeger cuts were on lines that had been on the market for years; the current-season launches were absent from the lists we read. If the smoker you want came out this year, plan on paying for it. Consumables — charcoal, pellets, wood chunks, rubs, butcher paper, sauce. None of the lists we read featured them, and we have found no documented Black Friday pattern for them; their prices move with pack size and shipping, not the calendar. Cheap things. A $15 instant-read can only fall a few dollars. If the product is already inexpensive, the saving is not worth a month of waiting.

We want to be equally clear about what we do not know. We found no reliable record for gravity-fed smokers, electric cabinets or offsets as categories — they are big-box items that turn up in both late-summer clearance and holiday lists without a pattern we would put a name to — and no record for cutting boards or coolers. “No documented pattern” in the table below means exactly that, not “never discounts.”

Black Friday is not the cheapest day to buy a grill

This is the finding that surprised us. The retail-timing sources agree that for grills and smokers specifically, the deepest prices come at end-of-season clearance, not in November. GearWhen’s guide puts it plainly: summer clearance starts after July 4 and bottoms out in September, with Labor Day weekend at 20 to 35% off and late September at 40 to 50% or more on remaining stock — while Black Friday grill deals are “fresh inventory brought in specifically for the holiday, plus budget doorbuster models built to hit a price point,” typically 15 to 30% off. DealNews says the same thing more gently: the better-quality grill deals run September through November, with Labor Day kicking them off.

Two honest qualifications. Clearance is slim pickings — you buy what the store still has, in the color it has — and it applies to floor stock at big-box retailers, not to a specific model you have your heart set on. Black Friday is where you get a named, current model at a real if smaller discount. If you are reading this in September and would be happy with any good pellet grill, check the clearance aisle now. If you want the exact smoker on our roundup, November is the more likely moment, and the live price on this page will show it.

How to tell a real deal from a fake one

Trust the struck-through price, not the banner. When a discount is real, Amazon reports a list price and the percentage off, and our buy buttons show both automatically. A “Black Friday price” banner with no struck-through list price is a regular price with a hat on. Be suspicious of a “was” price the product never sold at — the reference price is doing the work, not the discount. Watch for bundles that hide the price of the main item behind a cover and a bag of pellets. Compare against September. If a grill was cheaper on clearance two months ago, a November “deal” that lands above that is not one. Buy only what you would buy at full price. A 30% discount on the wrong smoker is still the wrong smoker — start with the roundup, pick the model, then wait for the price.

How we will cover it — and what we will not do

In November this page changes in two ways: the status block at the top reports what is live, and deals on products we already recommend move to the top of the picks list below. The price on every button comes from the same daily retailer check as the rest of the site, stamped with the date it was pulled, and it expires after 48 hours rather than going stale — so a deal that ends will disappear from this page on its own.

What we will not do: invent a deal, predict a discount, quote a percentage we did not see live, or post a “deal” on a product we would not recommend at full price. If a category has no deals worth posting, this page will say so. That is the same standard the rest of the site holds, and Black Friday is not a reason to lower it.
